What is Active Release Technique™ (A.R.T.)?

Active Release Technique, A.R.T., is a patented soft tissue system. It is used to treat issues in muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. A.R.T. works by breaking up scar tissue and releasing adhesions surrounding these structures, in other words it improves tissue mobility. As a result of treatment many conditions can be resolved quickly and permanently using Active Release Technique. Some examples of injuries it can be used to treat include headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, knee and shoulder pain, and plantar fasciitis. Similarly these conditions have one thing in common: they are almost always the result of overused muscles. During a typical Chiropractic treatment we may use A.R.T. to treat areas of complaint and help speed up recovery.

What is an A.R.T. treatment like?

Every A.R.T. session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. Drs. Connor and Irwin use their experienced hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with specific patient movements. The specificity of A.R.T. addresses the fact that every injury has a unique effect to the biomechanics of the patient. A.R.T. has been found to be most effective when combined with other complementary therapies such as chiropractic adjustments and massage therapy.
