What is an Acupuncture Treatment?
An Acupuncture Treatment is the use of fine single use sterile needles being inserted into specific areas of the body, and if indicated stimulated manually or with electricity. The application of these needles can be used to affect the tissues for injury recovery. Acupuncture can be used to treat a variety of different complaints that involve the muscles, ligaments, tendons and joints. By using a combination of acupuncture and other treatment modalities, our practitioners work to achieve the best possible results for our patients.
Acupuncture is offered by both our highly skilled Massage Therapists and Physiotherapists at Connor Chiropractic and Wellness Centre. They use a combination of clinical presentation and patients goals to determine where to apply the needles and achieve the best results.
Our clinic offers both Medical and Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture. These two types of acupuncture approach the patients complaint from different perspectives, with similar goals of symptom reduction.
How can an Acupuncture Treatment help me?
Acupuncture helps by increasing endorphins, reducing muscular tension and increasing blood flow. Common reasons to seek acupuncture are:
- nerve pain
- tendonitis
- frozen shoulder
- headaches
- muscular/ myofascial tightness
- sciatica
- bursitis
During your treatment you can expect to discuss your chief complaint with the practitioner. After which they will insert the acupuncture needles in the indicated locations. The needles are left in place for the duration of the appointment and removed prior to leaving the clinic. A typical treatment does not cause any prolonged discomfort outside of the initial needle insertion, which many individuals say is barley noticeable.
